Lors des dernières sessions de la Commission des droits de l'homme des Nations unies, le 29 mars 2001, elle a déclaré que l'UE demeurait profondément préoccupée par les informations faisant état de tortures et autres punitions ou traitements inhumains, de recours croissant à la peine de mort et aux amputations, de lois discriminatoires et d'interdictions ou de restrictions frappant les libertés fondamentales.
At the last sessions of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, on 29 March 2001, it stated that “the EU continues to be deeply concerned about reports of torture and other inhuman treatment or punishment, the increasing use of the death penalty and amputations, discriminatory laws and prohibitions of, or restrictions on, fundamental freedoms”.
