L’attivo dell’Europa sul versante dei servizi è troppo esiguo per compensare tale squilibrio. La Cina consegue questo surplus commerciale mantenendo artificialmente basso il valore della sua moneta, calmierando gli stipendi affinché i consumatori cinesi non possano acquistare prodotti importati e i prezzi all’esportazione risultino assai inferiori ai prezzi europei, e ignorando i diritti di brevetto internazionali, sicché le aziende cinesi possono approfittare delle attività di ricerca e sviluppo condotte da altri.
China achieves its trade surplus by an artificially low value of its currency, by suppressed wage rates so that imports into China cannot be afforded and so that export prices are considerably lower than European prices, and thirdly, by ignoring international patent rights so that Chinese companies can benefit from research and development not carried out by themselves.
