Definition: The schizophrenic disorders are characterized in general by fundamental and characteristic distortions of thinking and perception, and affects that are inappropriate or blunted. Clear consciousness and intellectual capacity are usually maintained although certain cognitive deficits may evolve in the course of time. Individual vulnerability and coping capacity play a role in the occurrence and severity of acute stress reactions. For nationals of either Contracting State who go from one State to the other, insurance or assimilated periods completed under the social security plans of the first State shall be totalized, pursuant to Article XII, with insurance or assimilated periods completed under the plans of the other State to the extent necessary to satisfy the minimum requirements of contributory or insurance periods of the legislation of the State where the disability occurs, both in order to determine eligibility for disability insurance cash benefits (pensions) or benefits in kind (care) and to maintain or regain this right.
